Rethinking Community in Myanmar with Judith Beyer

A new podcast interview with Judith Beyer is out!

NIAS Press author Judith Beyer joined Postdoctoral Researcher Mai Van Tran in a conversation on her latest book Rethinking Community in Myanmar. Judith and Van talk about the concept of “community”, how it shapes “Muslim” and “Hindu” lives in Myanmar and their navigations with ethno-political identities.

You can listen to the podcast on the Nordic Asia Podcast, on Spotify or your usual podcast app.

More information on the book

Rethinking Community in Myanmar is the first anthropological monograph of Muslim and Hindu lives in contemporary Myanmar.

The book introduces the concept of “we-formation” as a fundamental yet underexplored capacity of humans to relate to one another outside of and apart from demarcated ethno-religious lines and corporate groups. Her argument also provides an alternative lens to understand the dynamics of the ongoing Myanmar Spring Revolution.
