• Gives a broad and insightful overview of democratization in the region.
• Offers a great deal of empirical analysis of local democratization in Southeast Asia that will prove to be very useful to scholars.
This volume looks to go beyond the often one-dimensional debate on democratization in Asia. With an historical perspective, and looking to view change from within, ten case studies from Southeast Asia are presented that illuminate how processes of governance are being altered under the pressure of accelerating globalization. An analytical conclusion assesses the findings of case studies in relation to recent writings on societal change in the region.

Apparently, the hot travel destinations this year are Uganda and Burma – at least according to Lonely Planet aficionados. If true, then sales of a recent NIAS Press book – listed as recommended reading in the latest edition of the Lonely Planet guide to Myanmar/Burma – might be about to explode (or maybe not, given its subject matter).
