• Gives a broad and insightful overview of democratization in the region.
• Offers a great deal of empirical analysis of local democratization in Southeast Asia that will prove to be very useful to scholars.
This volume looks to go beyond the often one-dimensional debate on democratization in Asia. With an historical perspective, and looking to view change from within, ten case studies from Southeast Asia are presented that illuminate how processes of governance are being altered under the pressure of accelerating globalization. An analytical conclusion assesses the findings of case studies in relation to recent writings on societal change in the region.

NIAS Press is in the process of converting its titles to ebook format. At this point, the press has entered into distribution agreements with a number of library suppliers and we soon aim to make our books available for download onto ebook readers like the Kindle and iPad. Until this happens, you can order an ebook from the ISEAS Bookshop.
NIAS Press aims to keep all our books in print indefinitely, but our distributors do not carry a full complement of the oldest titles. If you cannot source a NIAS title from your preferred bookshop or from the local NIAS Press distributor, please contact books(at)nias.ku.dk and we will do our best to help you.
The prices in British pounds sterling (£) stated on this website will be applied to all orders in Europe. To the best of our ability, these prices are accurate, but are subject to change.
